A spirit of tolerance, experimentation and narcissistic poncing about
May books

Margaret Mahy, Alien In The Family
T. S. Dorsch (trans), Ancient Literary Criticism
Have I Got 1997 For You
Lois Bujold, The Curse of Chalion (I picked this up to lend someone and just glanced at the first page- fatal)
Good Housekeeping: Home Front
David Hendy, Life On Air: a history of Radio Four
Melissa Scott, Night Sky Mine
Mat Coward, Classic Radio Comedy
M.Y. Alam, Made In Bradford
Diane Duane, The Empty Chair
Elizabeth Enright, Gone-Away Lake
Leslie Stratyner & James Keller (eds), Fantasy Fiction Into Film
Charles Stross, Iron Sunrise
Janet Kagan, Uhura's Song
Sallie Tisdale, The Best Thing I Ever Tasted
Angus Deayton and Geoffrey Perkins, RadioActive
Home Sweet Home: The Best of Good Housekeeping 1922-39
Katherine Kerr, Shadow Isle
Georgette Heyer, Footsteps in the Dark
Stuart Maconie, Adventures on the High Teas
Diana Wynne Jones, The Time of the Ghost
Andy Medhurst, A National Joke: popular comedy and English cultural identities
Terry Pratchett, The Carpet People
Georgette Heyer, Pistols For Two (How many accidental couples were there in compromising situations in coaching inns at any one time in Regency England, anyway? Fun, but I think Heyer is better at novel length. Though I did like the Sweeny Todd-esque story.)
Arthur Conan Doyle, Complete Sherlock Holmes Short Stories (actually not quite complete, as the covers and half of the last story have disappeared. Mem: replace.)
Sarah Caudwell, The Shorter Way To Hades
Miss Read, Early Days
Nigel Slater, Eating For England
Keth Waterhouse, Streets Ahead

(Title quote: Coward, p13.)

Have you read Heyer's Why Shoot A Butler? I can bring it along next time I visit. Incredibly obnoxious hero, and indeed heroine.

Yes, the local library has it, thanks. (Can't say I remember the characters much, mind you.)
